MAGNA LANE PLAYING FIELD
MAGNA LANE PLAYING FIELDS

As part of the Housing Regeneration Programme, Groundwork Dearne Valley, an Environmental Regeneration Charity, were asked to consult with local residents in the Chesterhill Area to find out what environmental improvements they would like to see, across the whole area of Chesterhill. A Family Fun Day was organised by Groundwork Dearne Valley alongside the Neighbourhood Pride Team to find out which areas of space people would like to see improved and how this can be done.

Improvements to Dalton Playing Fields/Magna Lane fields seemed the most popular and, as a result, the Parish Council have granted permissive rights for Groundworks Dearne Valley to commence work on producing a master plan for this site. The Parish Council has also provided a grant for architectural fees to enable the master plan to be drawn up. After a master plan has been drawn up and passed through the steering group, the master plan can go out to consultation with the local community, this will then lead to securing further funding to deliver the project.

ARUNDEL AVENUE GREEN SPACE

Because it is earmarked for building, permanent environ mental improvements are not possible for this area. However, Groundworks Dearne Valley have agreed a project to provide some more flexible improve ments to the area. The project aims to create a wildlife belt around the site. Hawthorn trees will be planted and bulb planting of wildflowers or tall herbs will be undertaken. Part of the site will be leveled out to create an informal football pitch and a small BMX track will be created from soil. Small mounds (possibly stones) will be inserted in a quiet part of the green space so that children can use these for a game called ‘tiggy of the ground’. Consultation has been carried out with local children at Dalton Foljambe School.

Schools in and around the Parish are involved in a hanging basket and allotment project. The hanging baskets are to be sited around the schools, local Community centres and care homes to compliment the hanging baskets that have been sited along Doncaster Road, Dalton and Flanderwell Lane, Sunnyside.
