parish of Dalton is situated in South Yorkshire, approximately 3 miles to
the east of Rotherham town centre. It covers an area of approximately 2 square
miles and has a population of approximately 9.000.
Parish includes the communities of Brecks, Dalton Brook, Dalton Foljambe,
Dalton Magna, Dalton Parva, Flanderwell, Sunnyside and Woodlaithes.
is an unusual Parish in that there is green belt land at the centre which
is mainly surrounded by housing development. There has been no heavy industry
located in the parish since the closure of Silverwood mine in 1995. The Parish
is administered by a Parish Council consisting of 16 elected Members.
Council meets in Dalton Parish Hall at 7.00 p.m. on the third Thursday
of each month, with the exception of December and August.
Parish Council is involved in the provision of allotment gardens, recreation
areas, lettings of halls, environmental improvements, provision of cash grants
to local organisations and the consideration of local planning matters. It
also makes representations to Local Government, National Government, Police,
Health Service, Passenger Transport Authority and other organisations on matters
which are of concern to the local population.
Parish Council and Silverwood Miners’ Welfare are joining forces to
hold a Gala to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Saturday
9th June 2012. The event will be held in the grounds of Silverwood Miners’
Welfare from 12.00 noon to 5.00 p.m. and will comprise a music festival.
The event will be a fun day for all with free rides and games for children,
face painting, a temporary skate/bmx park, junior quad bikes, football coaching,
senior citizens’ tea dance, a medieval e-enactment, wild bird show,
children’s karaoke, exhibitions in boxing, karate and dance and various
craft and information stalls. There will be a beer tent for the adults and
ice cream and hotdogs for the younger generation. We will be holding a Fancy
Dress Competition for children and adults with prizes for under 7s, 8s to
11s, 11s to 15s and 15 and above. There will also be a balloon race with
a prize for the balloon which travels the furthest distance. So come along
and join the fun.
Parish Council is currently holding discussions with representatives of Ravenfield
and Thrybergh Parish Councils, Youth Services, South Yorkshire Police and
Groundworks Dearne Valley with a view to considering the siting of a skate
park in or around Dalton Parish. Consultation with parishioners will take
