Welcome to Dalton Parish Council's website.

The parish of Dalton is situated in South Yorkshire, approximately 3 miles to the east of Rotherham town centre. It covers an area of approximately 2 square miles and has a population of approximately 9.000.

The Parish includes the communities of Brecks, Dalton Brook, Dalton Foljambe, Dalton Magna, Dalton Parva, Flanderwell, Sunnyside and Woodlaithes.

It is an unusual Parish in that there is green belt land at the centre which is mainly surrounded by housing development. There has been no heavy industry located in the parish since the closure of Silverwood mine in 1995. The Parish is administered by a Parish Council consisting of 16 elected Members.

The Council meets in Dalton Parish Hall at 7.00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month, with the exception of December and August.

The Parish Council is involved in the provision of allotment gardens, recreation areas, lettings of halls, environmental improvements, provision of cash grants to local organisations and the consideration of local planning matters. It also makes representations to Local Government, National Government, Police, Health Service, Passenger Transport Authority and other organisations on matters which are of concern to the local population.

Dalton Parish Council and Silverwood Miners’ Welfare are joining forces to hold a Gala to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Saturday 9th June 2012. The event will be held in the grounds of Silverwood Miners’ Welfare from 12.00 noon to 5.00 p.m. and will comprise a music festival. There will be a beer tent for the adults and ice cream and hotdogs for the younger generation. We will be holding a Fancy Dress Competition for children and adults with prizes for under 7s, 8s to 11s, 11s to 15s and 15 and above. There will also be a balloon race with a prize for the balloon which travels the furthest distance. So come along and join the fun.

Dalton Parish Council is currently holding discussions with representatives of Ravenfield and Thrybergh Parish Councils, Youth Services, South Yorkshire Police and Groundworks Dearne Valley with a view to considering the siting of a skate park in or around Dalton Parish.
